A great look at what caused a Coronal Mass Ejection earlier this morning (Aug 4, 2012). SDO captures this filament eruption in all its glory. Also included is a video by Lasco C2 showing the CME plasma cloud as it leaves the Sun. It does not appear to be Earth directed.

Magnetosphere Update - Saturday AUGUST 4, 2012 at 5:45 PM CT
High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program(HAARP)
http://www.haarp.alaska.edu/cgi-bin/magnetometer/gak-mag.cgi
The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is an ionospheric research program jointly funded by the US Air Force, the US Navy, the University of Alaska and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).Geomagnetic storminess is usually indicated in oscillatory variations in the earth's magnetic field. Additional detail concerning the nature and severity of the ionospheric disturbance can be found through analysis of the three components of the field. Data from a chain of magnetometers are also available.
HAARP FLUXGATE MAGNETOMETER
A magnetosphere is formed when a stream of charged particles, such as the solar wind, interacts with and is deflected by the intrinsic magnetic field of a planet or similar body. Earth is surrounded by a magnetosphere, as are the other planets with intrinsic magnetic fields: Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn…
The Kiruna magnetogram provides realtime data of the local Earth magnetic field at ground level. Strong deviations in the data, primarily the black line could signal the development of geomagnetic activity. The curves on this plot show deflections from an average. The average is derived from the monthly means of the five most quiet days.

SolarHam.com | Visible Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) - Saturday 8-4-12
An eruption registering as a long duration C-Class flare is currently in progress in the southeast quadrant. A Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is now visible in the latest Lasco C2 images. The plasma cloud looks to be directed mostly towards the east.
The Sun is peppered with small to mid sized sunspots on Saturday, however most remain stable. There will remain the chance for an isolated M-Class solar flare this weekend.

Severe weather has broke out in multiple spots across the United States.. North, Southwest, and Southeast -- as well as the midwest.
Hail, Damaging winds, and possible Tornadoes ---- North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada Colorado.
Be prepared and get ready in Iowa, Wisconsin, South Central Canada near Thunder Bay eastward.. also watch in North Michigan, north Illinois, north Indiana...
Midwest states may need to watch out for what is coming out of the SW... this means Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri may see hail and damaging winds.
In the southeast.. continue to watch Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania.... strong cell thunderstorms with some hail are persisting.

Magnetosphere Update - Thursday AUGUST 2, 2012 at 4:30 PM CT
SOLAR FLARES : Eruptive (C-class flares expected, probability >= 50%)GEOMAGNETISM : Active conditions expected (A>=20 or K=4)SOLAR PROTONS : QuietCOMMENT: Solar activity has been at eruptive levels during the past 24hours, featuring six low C flares from NOAA AR 11532, 11535 and 11538.C-level flares are likely within the next 48 hours, with a chance for anM flare.ACE observed a small shock in the solar wind around 10h UT on August 2,which could be the effect of the CME of July 28. Currently, Bz is near-10 nT and solar wind speed between 400 and 450 km/s. This combinationmay lead to active intervals within an otherwise quiet geomagneticsituation. The geomagnetic field is expectedto be quiet on August 3 and 4.http://sidc.oma.be/products/meu/index.phpHigh Frequency Active Auroral Research Program(HAARP)
