Levee near Desota Bend (near Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Plant) Intentionally Blown Up Along Missouri RiverAuthorities Investigate DetonationKETV.com - July 1, 2011
Authorities are investigating an intentional breach in a levee near Desoto Bend.
Pottawattamie County officials said a half-mile stretch of the Vanmann #30 levee was mechanically excavated and then lowered by using explosives.
Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Theulen said he was alerted Friday morning that the levee may have been in the process of being intentionally breached.
About 20 minutes later, officials said they received calls from people wanting to know why levees were being blown up. One caller claimed to have witnessed the explosion.
Authorities said they’re investigating the levee breach. Pottawattamie County officials said no government entity had anything to do with the detonation, and they did not have advance notice from the people responsible for the breach.
Officials said they’re disappointed with the decision to breach the levee without notifying authorities. They said a group of citizens had wanted to breach the levee to allow pooling water to go back into the Missouri River. However, there seemed to have been some confusion as to who would grant permission for this levee to be breached.
On June 28, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said it did not regulate the levee in question. The Army Corps of Engineers initially said it would not approve the breach of the levee. But Friday morning, the Corps also said it did not have authority to regulate the Vanmann #30 levee.

Lincoln NE Airport Making Plans for Possible Shutdown of Omaha's Epply Airport in case of flooding
Posted: 9:17 AM Jul 1, 2011
Airlines and other businesses that use Omaha's Eppley Airfield are making plans in case flooding forces the airport's closure.
Lincoln Airport executive director John Wood says he's had discussion with three passenger airlines, all freight airlines and all the rental car companies that serve Eppley. He also says ConAgra, Mutual of Omaha and Kiewit have moved their corporate planes from Omaha to Lincoln.
Wood has also had discussion with the Transportation Safety Administration about possible flight diversions to Lincoln.
The Omaha airport is protected from the swollen Missouri River by levees, and pumps are keeping the main road to the airport dry.
The river isn't expected to overtop the levees but there is concern that the prolonged flooding could weaken the airport's levees.

Joyce Riley: They Are Flooding Us On Purpose! Underwater Body BagsYouTube June 28th, 2011 - The Corps began to utilize the dam system to mimic the previous flow cycles of the original river, holding back large amounts of water upstream during the winter and early spring in order to release them rapidly as a “spring pulse.” The water flows would then be restricted to facilitate a summer drawdown of stream levels. This new policy was highly disruptive to barge traffic and caused frequent localized flooding...
