Magnetosphere Update - Saturday MARCH 10, 2012

No animated magnetosphere for both Friday and today Saturday MARCH 10, 2012e ... ??? Will post once it is released by the Japanese website.

**Several 5 * magnitude quakes hit the Japan area on Friday and earthquakes have influenced the updating of their website in the past

High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP)
http://www.haarp.alaska.edu/cgi-bin/magnetometer/gak-mag.cgi

The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is an ionospheric research program jointly funded by the US Air Force, the US Navy, the University of Alaska and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
Geomagnetic storminess is usually indicated in oscillatory variations in the earth's magnetic field. Additional detail concerning the nature and severity of the ionospheric disturbance can be found through analysis of the three components of the field. Data from a chain of magnetometers are also available.

A magnetosphere is formed when a stream of charged particles, such as the solar wind, interacts with and is deflected by the intrinsic magnetic field of a planet or similar body. Earth is surrounded by a magnetosphere, as are the other planets with intrinsic magnetic fields: Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn…

The Kiruna magnetogram provides realtime data of the local Earth magnetic field at ground level. Strong deviations in the data, primarily the black line could signal the development of geomagnetic activity. The curves on this plot show deflections from an average. The average is derived from the monthly means of the five most quiet days.

SolarHam.com | Strong M8.4 Solar Flare peaked from Sunspot 1429 - Saturday MARCH 10, 2012

Sunspot 1429 produced another strong solar flare, this time an M8.4 event at17:44 UTC on March 10, 2012. A bright CME was generated as well. This video shows various movies and images by SDO, EVE and STEREO Ahead COR2.

Sunspot 1429 is back at it again, this time with a strong M8.4 Solar Flare peaking at 17:44 UTC. This event triggered and R2 Level Radio Blackout and a Type IV Sweep Frequency Event was detected as well.

Dutchsinse | 3/8/2012 -- Midwest severe weather outbreak -- ANOTHER STORM OUT WEST

Be ALERT --- these strong cell storms are kicking up fairly quickly.. if you live in Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio -- (or the east coast USA tomorrow)... these storms will be heading your way.

Dutchsinse | 3/7/2012 -- Severe weather developing in Midwest and off West Coast

Be aware of the possibility of severe weather breaking out in the Midwest and South USA...(currently forecast by the NWS).
Also, forming off the west coast USA -- due west of California -- coming from the area of Hawaii -- a large system beginning to show sure signs of coming together for a west coast severe weather situation, and further in the midwest a day after coming ashore on the west coast.

Magnetosphere Update - Ongoing Radiation Storm - Wednesday MARCH 7, 2012 at 10:45 AM CT

Ongoing Radiation Storm
The high energy proton levels continue to rise following the strong solar flare from very early this morning. A strong S3 Level Radiation Storm is now in progress. The increase in proton levels are a direct result of the major solar flare activity from early Wednesday morning around Sunspot 1429. http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/

SolarHam.com | Major X5.4 Solar Flare + CME - Presentation (3/7/2012)

The second strongest solar flare of Cycle 24 in terms of X-Ray Flux, just peaked around Active Sunspot 1429. This major event measured X5.4 at 00:24 UTC and triggered a strong R3 Level Radio Blackout. A bright Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) was produced and is most likely Earth directed. This movie has various images and slide shows by SDO, STEREO Behind COR2 and EVE.

SolarHam.com | X5.4 Solar Flare just peaked - 2nd strongest solar flare of Cycle 24

The second strongest solar flare of Cycle 24 in terms of X-Ray Flux, just peaked around Active Sunspot 1429. This major event measured X5.4 at 00:24 UTC. A coronal mass ejection will likely result and due to the sunspots more geoeffective position, there will be a chance for some sort of impact.

UPDATE
***The Solar X-Rays are currently showing another rise in X-Ray Flux output at 01:10 UTC. It is currently reading at X1.3.

A bright Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is now seen in the new STEREO Behind COR2 images.
