The growing homeless camp population in Colorado Springs is grabbing the attention of the more fortunate.
Annie Gaffney posted an ad on craigslist.com saying she wanted to spend her birthday collecting and distributing items to homeless camps near downtown.
As Southern Colorado braces for another week with below-freezing overnight temperatures, the hundreds of people living in the so-called 'tent cities' hope they have enough wood and propane to stay warm.
About two dozen people showed up Sunday with supplies to America The Beautiful Park eager to help. "Its heartbreaking to see people struggle," said Gaffney. “I'm just completely in shock with how many people showed up with so much help.”
"I'm really surprised," said Bill, a member of the homeless camp along Fountain Creek. Bill has been homeless since the summer, and he's very thankful for the gifts.
A short drive up the road, 11 News finds a young couple living under the freeway on-ramp. "We're really excited, just the fact of wood made us happy cause it keeps us warm," said Carissa.
"It actually boosts my spirits. It actually shows that people are starting to care more," said Chris.
Support beams are used as food pantries and tarps hang to block the wind in the camp Carissa and Chris set up below the interstate.
"You just gotta do what you gotta do,” said Bill. “Cause if you give up, then you lose."
Every single volunteer hopes the donated supplies will help the homeless stay warm, as the cold night air sets in.
At last Monday’s city council meeting, the Colorado Springs Police Department presented a new ordinance looking to make camping on city property and in city parks illegal. The council said the ordinance did not have sufficient information. After more research is done, the proposal will be brought to the council in February.

Venezuelan Chavez said Hillary Clinton's warning to Latin American nations about their ties with Iran was "an overt threat" to his country and Boliva
During a gathering of leftist leaders in Cuba, Chavez said Clinton's words were among "clear signs of an imperial offensive" targeting what he called "progressive forces" in Latin America.
Chavez is the most outspoken U.S. critic in Latin America.
He is among several regional presidents to strengthen diplomatic and commercial ties with Iran despite mounting international pressure on the Islamic Republic over its nuclear ambitions. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Brazil, Bolivia and Venezuela in late November.
Clinton warned Latin American countries last week against becoming too closely involved with Iran, saying that doing so was "a really bad idea" that could have consequences for them.
Her remarks drew criticism from Bolivia's Foreign Ministry and from Chavez.
"It's an overt threat," Chavez told reporters in Cuba. "Her declarations are like a threat, especially at Venezuela and Bolivia."
Along with Chavez, Bolivia's Evo Morales and Ecuador's Rafael Correa are fierce critics of U.S. foreign policy and recently have forged closer ties with Iran, Russia and other countries.

The Weather Underground people are forecasting low temperatures of 21°, 17° and 22° in Copenhagen, respectively, for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The record lows for those dates are 24°, 19° and 19°.
Now it could be that the weather history that Weather Underground uses does not go back that far.
But then again, the Global Warming crowd ignores data that shows the Middle Ages were much warmer than today.
The normal temperature range for Copenhagen in January is 29° to 36°.

Mexico's drug cartels siphon liquid gold - Bold theft of $1 billion in oil, resold in U.S., has dealt a major blow to the treasury

MALTRATA, MEXICO -- Drug traffickers employing high-tech drills, miles of rubber hose and a fleet of stolen tanker trucks have siphoned more than $1 billion worth of oil from Mexico's pipelines over the past two years, in a vast and audacious conspiracy that is bleeding the national treasury, according to U.S. and Mexican law enforcement officials and the state-run oil company.
Using sophisticated smuggling networks, the traffickers have transported a portion of the pilfered petroleum across the border to sell to U.S. companies, some of which knew that it was stolen, according to court documents and interviews with American officials involved in an expanding investigation of oil services firms in Texas.
The widespread theft of Mexico's most vital national resource by criminal organizations represents a costly new front in President Felipe Calderón's war against the drug cartels, and it shows how the traffickers are rapidly evolving from traditional narcotics smuggling to activities as diverse as oil theft, transport and sales.

The unnamed military affairs blogger has published a list of recent air strikes against militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and an amazing pattern has emerged: It seems that just about every time an air strike is reported in the news, the Taliban casualty figure cited is 30.
Citing the Moon of Alabama blog, which made a similar argument this spring, Security Crank linked to 12 news reports of separate air strike incidents since the start of the year in which the number of Taliban or insurgent casualties was reported to be 30, in most cases citing US military officials.
Not 29, not 31. Thirty.
What does this mean? For the Security Crank, it means we just shouldn't believe the numbers.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Obama's West Point speech of December 1 represents far more than the obvious brutal escalation in Afghanistan -- it is nothing less than a declaration of all-out war by the United States against Pakistan . This is a brand-new war, a much wider war now targeting Pakistan , a country of 160 million people armed with nuclear weapons. In the process, Afghanistan is scheduled to be broken up. This is no longer the Bush Cheney Afghan war we have known in the past. This is something immensely bigger: the attempt to destroy the Pakistani central government in Islamabad and to sink that country into a chaos of civil war, Balkanization, subdivision and general mayhem. The chosen strategy is to massively export the Afghan civil war into Pakistan and beyond, fracturing Pakistan along ethnic lines. It is an oblique war using fourth-generation or guerrilla warfare techniques to assail a country which the United States and its associates in aggression are far too weak to attack directly. In this war, the Taliban are employed as US proxies. This aggression against Pakistan is Obama's attempt to wage the Great Game against the hub of Central Asia and Eurasia or more generally.

Radio LIberty: The Georgia Guidestones
On one of the highest hilltops in Elbert County, Georgia stands a huge granite monument. Engraved in eight different languages on the four giant stones that support the common capstone are 10 Guides, or commandments. That monument is alternately referred to as The Georgia Guidestones, or the American Stonehenge. Though relatively unknown to most people, it is an important link to the Occult Hierarchy that dominates the world in which we live.
The origin of that strange monument is shrouded in mystery because no one knows the true identity of the man, or men, who commissioned its construction. All that is known for certain is that in June 1979, a well-dressed, articulate stranger visited the office of the Elberton Granite Finishing Company and announced that he wanted to build an edifice to transmit a message to mankind. He identified himself as R. C. Christian, but it soon became apparent that was not his real name. He said that he represented a group of men who wanted to offer direction to humanity, but to date, almost two decades later, no one knows who R. C. Christian really was, or the names of those he represented. Several things are apparent. The messages engraved on the Georgia Guidestones deal with four major fields: (1) Governance and the establishment of a world government, (2) Population and reproduction control, (3) The environment and man's relationship to nature, and (4) Spirituality.
In the public library in Elberton, I found a book written by the man who called himself R.C. Christian. I discovered that the monument he commissioned had been erected in recognition of Thomas Paine and the occult philosophy he espoused. Indeed, the Georgia Guidestones are used for occult ceremonies and mystic celebrations to this very day. Tragically, only one religious leader in the area had the courage to speak out against the American Stonehenge, and he has recently relocated his ministry.
THE MESSAGE OF THE GEORGIA GUIDESTONES
1. Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.
2. Guide reproduction wisely - improving fitness and diversity.
3. Unite humanity with a living new language.
4. Rule passion - faith - tradition - and all things with tempered reason.
5. Protect people and nations with fair laws and just courts.
6. Let all nations rule internally resolving external disputes in a world court.
7. Avoid petty laws and useless officials.
8. Balance personal rights with social duties.
9. Prize truth - beauty - love - seeking harmony with the infinite.
10.Be not a cancer on the earth - Leave room for nature - Leave room for nature.
Limiting the population of the earth to 500 million will require the extermination of nine-tenths of the world's people. The American Stonehenge's reference to establishing a world court foreshadows the current move to create an International Criminal Court and a world government. The Guidestones' emphasis on preserving nature anticipates the environmental movement of the 1990s, and the reference to "seeking harmony with the infinite" reflects the current effort to replace Judeo-Christian beliefs with a new spirituality.
The message of the American Stonehenge also foreshadowed the current drive for Sustainable Development. Any time you hear the phrase "Sustainable Development" used, you should substitute the term "socialism" to be able to understand what is intended. Later in this syllabus you will read the full text of the Earth Charter which was compiled under the direction of Mikhail Gorbachev and Maurice Strong. In that document you will find an emphasis on the same basic issues: control of reproduction, world governance, the importance of nature and the environment, and a new spirituality. What is the true significance of the American Stonehenge, and why is its covert message important? Because it confirms the fact that there was a covert group intent on(2) Promoting environmentalism.
(3) Establishing a world government.
(4) Promoting a new spirituality.
Certainly the group that commissioned the Georgia Guidestones is one of many similar groups working together toward a New World Order, a new world economic system, and a new world spirituality. Behind those groups, however, are dark spiritual forces. Without understanding the nature of those dark forces it is impossible to understand the unfolding of world events.
The fact that most Americans have never heard of the Georgia Guidestones or their message to humanity reflects the degree of control that exists today over what the American people think. We ignore that message at our peril.
