M-2 Solar Flare from Newly-emerging sunspot AR1532 on July 27th at approximately 1726 UT

The explosion does not appear to have produced a substantial CME. Even if it did, Earth is not in the line of fire. This sunspot will, however, become more geoeffective in the days ahead as it slowly turns toward Earth.

Sunspot 1520 producing M-Class flares
One of the largest Sunspots of the current Cycle 24 is rotating into a good position for Earth directed Solar Flares. This magnetic image provided by SDO shows just how complex this region now is. Sunspot 1520 has a Beta-Gamma-Delta magnetic configuration and may produce an X-Class flare.  An M1 flare at 05:10 UTC was followed up with an M2 flare at 06:27 UTC this morning.

Sunspot 1520 just produced an impulsive M1.1 Solar Flare at 23:07 UTC.


The cluster of sunspots located in the southeast quadrant are divided into three regions. Sunspot 1520 remains the dominant player and continues to grow in magnetic complexity.

ANOTHER BIG SUNSPOT: As one big sunspot (AR1515) turns away from Earth, another one is turning toward our planet. AR1520, now emerging over the sun's southeastern limb, stretches more than 127,000 km (10 Earth diameters) from end to end:


AR1520 has a 'beta-gamma' magnetic field that harbors energy for M-class solar flares.

The 4th of July fireworks continue. A moderate solar flare reaching M4.6 just peaked at 22:09 UTC. The source will most likely be Sunspot 1515. Moderate to Strong solar flares are now taking place frequently and there is now an increased chance for a major X-Class solar flare within the next 24-48 hours. Below is an updated list of today's solar flare events.

Sunspot 1513 Erupts
Yet another M-Class flare today, however this time it was centered around Sunspot 1513 in the northern hemisphere. The latest event measured M1.8 @ 16:39 UTC. A nice eruption is captured by SDO below.



SolarHam.com | Strong 5.3 M-Class Solar Flare - July 4, 2012

A strong solar flare reaching M5.3 was just detected around Sunspot 1515 at 09:55 UTC Wednesday morning.


Solar activity continues at moderate to high levels on Wednesday with an M5.3 Solar Flare at 09:55 UTC followed by an M2.3 at 12:24. The first solar flare did produce a bright Coronal Mass Ejection, however once again it appears to be headed mostly to the south. The attached image below is by STEREO Ahead COR2.

Two More M-Class Flares
Sunspot 1515 just produced another moderate solar flare, this time reaching M3.8 at 20:07 UTC. This large Sunspot cluster appears poised to generate a major solar flare within the next couple of days. Image by SDO.

A minor C6 solar flare around Sunspot 1513 was just followed up with yet another M-Class flare around Sunspot 1515. The latest blast peaked at M2.0 and the time of the event was 23:56 UTC.

Sunspot 1494 located in the southern hemisphere just produced a moderate M2.1 solar flare. The latest event peaked at 20:06 UTC Wednesday afternoon. The event itself was not long in duration.

An impulsive solar flare reaching M3.3 peaked at 17:55 UTC on Sunday afternoon. The quick flash of light was centered around Sunspot 1493 located in the northern hemisphere. 



A TenFlare measuring 320pfu was recorded as well.

Peak Flux: 320 sfu
Description: A 10cm radio burst indicates that the electromagnetic burst associated with a solar flare at the 10cm wavelength was double or greater than the initial 10cm radio background. This can be indicative of significant radio noise in association with a solar flare. This noise is generally short-lived but can cause interference for sensitive receivers including radar, GPS, and satellite communications.

SolarHam.com | Sunspot 1476 produced a M4.7 Solar Flare peaking at 12:21 UTC (5-9-12)

Solar activity is currently moderate with two M-Class flares within the past 24 hours. The largest of these events was an M4.7 at 12:32 UTC Wednesday morning around Sunspot 1476. This region has a Beta-Gamma-Delta magnetic configuration and could produce an X-Class event. New Sunspot 1477 rotated into view off the southeast limb. This looks to be the return of old Sunspot 1462.



Another Solar Flare: A second moderate solar flare was just detected at 14:09 UTC. This one was smaller than the initial flare and measured M1.8 at its peak.

SolarHam.com | Two M-Class Flares / Sunspot 1476 - May 5, 2012




Solar activity increased to moderate levels thanks to newly numbered Sunspot 1476. This new region rotated into view off the northeast limb and has so far produced a pair of M-Class flares. The latest event was an M1.3 at 23:01 UTC Saturday evening.

A new and fairly large Sunspot continues to rotate into view off the northeast limb. The image below is the latest available by SDO on Saturday morning. This region has produced numerous C-Class flares thus far, the largest of which being a C6.8 flare at 09:34 UTC Saturday morning. There will be a chance for an M-Class event.

The returning region off the northeast limb looks to be providing us with some Solar Fireworks. A massive eruption that registered as an M1.7 event, peaked at 17:45 UTC on Monday afternoon. This will most likely launch a blob of plasma into space. Due to the location of this event, the cloud will probably be directed away from Earth.

SolarHam.com | Strong M8.4 Solar Flare peaked from Sunspot 1429 - Saturday MARCH 10, 2012


Sunspot 1429 produced another strong solar flare, this time an M8.4 event at17:44 UTC on March 10, 2012. A bright CME was generated as well. This video shows various movies and images by SDO, EVE and STEREO Ahead COR2.

Sunspot 1429 is back at it again, this time with a strong M8.4 Solar Flare peaking at 17:44 UTC. This event triggered and R2 Level Radio Blackout and a Type IV Sweep Frequency Event was detected as well.

An M1.3 Solar Flare has just taken place at 17:23 UTC Sunday afternoon and was centered around Sunspot 1302 which has been much quieter as of late. The flare was impulsive and not long in duration.

M-Class Flare:
A low level M-Class flare reaching M1.8 is currently in progress. The flare caused an R1 Level Radio Blackout and was centered around the region still hiding on the eastern limb.
