SolarHam.com | Video - Awesome Filament Eruption (9/13/2012)

If you watch this new video by SDO/AIA , you will notice three things. First you will see plenty of activity around Sunspot 1564 located off the western limb. The second thing you will notice is the video will go dark. This is the Earth passing between the Sun and the SDO Spacecraft. Just before it goes dark, you will want to pay close attention to the northwest quadrant (top right). A filament erupts in between Sunspot 1566 and plage region 1567 and after the Earth finishes its pass, you will notice the large plasma filled prominence (darker feature) that billows away from the Sun and into space. The Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) associated with this event does not look to be Earth directed.
