FoxHouston.com | Lack of MADD Funding Prompts Layoffs - Private corporate donations and government grants are down 15 to 20 percent

Monday, 19 Oct 2009, 10:46 PM CDT - HOUSTON - The lagging economy is forcing Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to make drastic cuts. MADD has already cut nearly 15 percent of its staff and more layoff could follow. Private corporate donations and government grants are down 15 to 20 percent.

Since the start of the year, MADD has cut 55 of its nearly 400 staff members around the U.S. MADD hopes volunteers can pick up the shortfall created by the layoffs. Carol Levin’s volunteers for the non-profit organization, she fears the cuts will ultimately mean there will be less support for victims of drunk driving. “If they cut funds then people like our family won’t have anywhere to turn. Carol’s son, Todd, was killed by a drunk driver in 2006.
