Chron.com | Mexican government seizes electrical utility

MEXICO CITY — October 12, 2009 - President Felipe Calderon on Sunday disbanded the public utility that supplies electricity to Mexico City and the surrounding area, citing a gaping budget hole that threatened service to 25 million consumers.

About 500 federal police seized the Mexico City offices of the electricity company Luz y Fuerza del Centro, hours before the government published a decree documenting severe financial and operational inefficiencies at the electricity provider.

Luz y Fuerza is a state-run company that services Mexico City and parts of four central states, but business decisions were largely dictated by a powerful labor union that was locked in a dispute with Calderon's government. The 66,000-member union promised protests to resist the move in the coming days. FULL STORY

GoldCoinsAgain.com | The IMF is having a garage sale!

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is looking to unload 1/8 of its 3,217 tonnes of gold to increase its ability to lend to poor countries. After the US and Germany, the IMF is the largest official holder of gold bullion.

This is bullish for gold! Central banks like those of Russia and China will increase their store of gold to shore up their accounts and hedge against inflation. China has already expressed their interest in purchasing more gold, and Chinese bankers have even been quoted that they will “buy gold during any dips in price.” Look for a long post soon on China’s hunger for gold and what this means for your investment future.

Wired.com | Hunting Arctic Asteroid Impact With Hovercraft

October 12, 2009 - Two polar scientists hot on the trail of an arctic mystery have a new tool for exploration: a hovercraft, specially outfitted for week-long trips over the ice with scientific instruments and solar panels.

Their quarry is a nearly 22,000 square-mile patch of disturbed Arctic sea floor that could be evidence of a massive asteroid strike. John Hall, a now-retired geoscientist, discovered the anomaly during his late-60s graduate work aboard Fletcher’s Ice Island, a huge berg U.S. scientists inhabited for several decades.

Since then, no scientific vessel has been back over the area to collect more data. The massive icebreakers that have crunched through the arctic since the 1990s can’t reach the spot, said Yngve Kristofferson, a scientist and explorer at the University of Bergen in Norway. FULL STORY

The Nation - Business | Should the yuan be a reserve currency?

RELATED:

The Nation is a weekly[2] United States periodical devoted to politics and culture, self-described as "the flagship of the left."[3] Founded on July 6, 1865 at the start of Reconstruction as a supporter of the victorious North in the American Civil War, it is the oldest continuously published weekly magazine in the US. It is published by the Nation Company, L.P. at 33 Irving Place, New York City.

The Nation has bureaus in London and Southern Africa, with departments covering Architecture, Art, Corporations, Defense, Environment, Films, Legal Affairs, Music, Peace and Disarmament, Poetry, and the United Nations. Israel postpones at last minute joint Juniper Cobra exercise with US

October 12, 2009, 4:43 PM (GMT+02:00) - US and Israeli forces were already poised to launch their joint Juniper Cobra strategic missile defense exercise, which takes place every two years, to begin Monday Oct. 12, when at noon an Israeli military spokesman suddenly announced its postponement by one week.

The announcement came three days after Turkey called off its sixth annual international air maneuver when the US and Italy pulled out in protest against the Israeli air force's last-minute exclusion by Ankara.

It also followed a statement in Tehran by Revolutionary Guards Deputy Commander Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami that Iran's high-tech Sejil missiles can repel any threat and attack on the country.

Our military sources report that the announcement caught 17 US naval ships fitted with Aegis missiles and ground teams operating THAAD and Patriot missile interceptors already in place - altogether 1,000 personnel. DEBKAfile's military sources report: They were to interlock with Israel's Arrow II and Navy for the biggest joint exercise they have ever held, simulating a multiple-direction missile attack on Israel from Iran, Syria, the Lebanese Hizballah and the Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The American FBX-T radar installed at the Israel's Air Force base at Nevatim in the Negev was assigned a key role in the practice which was to be overseen by Adm. Mark Fitzgerald, commander of the US. Navy's Sixth Fleet, and the head of Israel's air defense arm.

It was not immediately clear whether the highly exceptional week's postponement of the exercise on the very day it was to begin was a joint US-Israeli decision or one made by Israel for political or perhaps technical reasons. At any rate, it indicates something seriously amiss.

Putin visits China: $5 Billion in energy, infrastructure and telecoms expected & take part in a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperative Organization SCO

12 October, 2009, 17:32

Russia and China are set to seal deals worth more than five billion dollars in energy, infrastructure and telecoms. Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is leading a high-powered delegation to the eastern country.

Around a hundred top Russian business leaders form the delegation, hoping to win a bigger slice of one of the world’s largest markets.

Putin will meet with his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao during his visit, as well as China’s President Hu Jintao, and will take part in a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The meeting is expected to focus on the strengthening of humanitarian and economic cooperation between the SCO member states, including their cooperation in overcoming the consequences of the global financial crisis.

Heads of Government of the SCO member states are also to discuss joint projects in the transport, energy, information and telecommunication spheres.

The SCO, founded in 2001, consists of Russia, China and the ex-Soviet republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

RELATED:

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is an intergovernmental mutual-security organisation.

Although the declaration on the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation contained a statement that it "is not an alliance directed against other states and regions and it adheres to the principle of openness", many observers believe that one of the original purposes of the SCO was to serve as a counterbalance to NATO and the United States and in particular to avoid conflicts that would allow the United States to intervene in areas bordering both Russia and China.[40][41] And although not a member state, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has used his speeches at the SCO to make verbal attacks against the United States.[42]

The United States applied for observer status in the SCO, but was rejected in 2005.[43]

At the Astana summit in July 2005, with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq foreshadowing an indefinite presence of U.S. forces in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, the SCO urged the U.S. to set a timetable for withdrawing its troops from SCO member states. Shortly afterwards, Uzbekistan asked the U.S. to leave the K-2 air base,[44].

Recently the SCO has made no direct comments against the U.S. or its military presence in the region. However, several indirect statements at the past summits, including the 2007 summit in Bishkek, have been viewed as "thinly veiled swipes at Washington".[45]

I have found many flat, colorful particles in Morgellons lesions and coming out of pores on my body. I have called these flat, microscopic particles "plaques."

The plaques were not evident in the earlier years of this disease. Now I find them frequently. This paper is a collection of multicolor and blue plaques removed from lesions on my face and arms. Some are clear (glassy) while others are on a substrate of a milky material material that appears to dissipate over time. See my experiment later on this page for documentation. The back of the milky plaques are solid white. When the milky material is not present the plaques are like colored glass. They are brittle and break like glass (silica?) if moved. I have been able to catch one in transition from milky to clear.
(SEE MORE PICTURES)

The underlying question about all of the objects shown on this page is, what purpose do they have and why are they infesting the bodies of human beings? Who is doing this to us and why is this being ignored? These objects are real and making people ill.

Is there anyone out there with enough humanity to get some answers and make this stop?

DifferenceBetween.net | Difference Between Fascism and Imperialism

Fascism is an ideology started in Italy. Fascism is a reactionary movement which is based on the rejection toward the social theories developed during the French Revolution in 1789. The social theories of French Revolution were hated by the fascists and the slogan of Fascism is “Liberty, Equality and Fraternity”. Fascism highlights the myth of national or racial rebirth after a period of destruction. This ideology came into being for a “spiritual revolution” against the moral decline like materialism and individualism. Fascism promotes mystical unity, regenerative power of violence, youth and masculinity. It also promoted racial superiority, imperialist expansion, genocide and ethnic persecution. Fascists viewed peace as weakness and aggression as strength. Authoritarian leadership is a characteristic of fascism to maintain power and greatness of the State.

Fascism supports open supremacy of males but some times it also promotes female solidarity as well as provided opportunities for women. As a system of integration and control fascism used mass organizations. To suppress the opposition, it used organized violence. Fascism is against the ideologies like liberalism, Marxism and conservatism even though it used the practices and concepts of all these three ideologies. One of the major characteristics of a fascist country is separation and rejecting equality to a specific group of the population based on some superficial qualities and beliefs. Based on the origin, creed or race, a fascist government always considered one class of citizens as superior to another. The superior class lives in a republic whereas the oppressed class lives in a fascist state.

Imperialism is the outcome of a hierarchical organization. Imperialism continues to exist even today. It is the domination of a society over another by both economically and politically. Today United States of America is considered as the imperialistic power along with some of the powerful European states like Britain. Imperialism is also associated with religious beliefs, political beliefs, thoughts etc and communism is a good example for such imperialism. In the ancient times, imperialism was predominantly seen in empires such as Roman Empire and Chinese Empire. The age of imperialism began in the late 19th century when European nations that are technologically advanced than any other nation started to overpower the continents of Africa, America and Asia.

In modern world, one of the common types of imperialism is the imperialism for natural resources such as oil. Gulf war and Iraq war are the examples of ‘oil imperialism’ where oil is exploited. United States got the supremacy over Gulf making it the third largest oil producer in the world and super power.

GMAnews.tv | Mayon Volcano's sulfur dioxide emission rate increases

10/12/2009 | 01:18 PM - State volcanologists on Monday observed a nearly 350-ton increase in the sulfur dioxide emission rate of Mayon Volcano in Albay province in the Bicol region.

In its latest update, the Philppine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that the volcano emitted 853 tons of SO2 in the past 24 hours.

Phivolcs recorded only 505 tons last October 10; 761 tons last October 8, and 350 tons last October 7.

While the volcano’s steaming activity remained moderate and while the crater glow remained obscure, Phivolcs said that they detected seven volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours – bringing to 43 the number of volcanic earthquakes recorded from October 5 to 11.

Mayon Volcano’s status, however, remained at Alert Level 2, which is characterized as "a state of unrest which could lead to more ash explosion or eventually to hazardous magmatic eruption." FULL STORY

AFP | A 6.4-magnitude quake hits South Pacific

SYDNEY — A 6.4-magnitude quake hit the Santa Cruz islands in the South Pacific on Monday, US seismologists said, but there was no immediate warning of a tsunami.

The quake struck at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres (six miles) about 355 kilometres north of Luganville, part of the Vanuatu archipelago, at 8:37 pm (0937 GMT), the US Geological Survey said.

But no tsunami warning was immediately issued as a result of the tremor, which followed a series of huge quakes last week that triggered a region-wide tsunami alert.

The Pacific is still recovering from an 8.0 magnitude earthquake and huge tsunami that crashed into Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga on September 29, wiping out villages and resorts and killing 184.
