DEFINITION: DEMOCRACY vs. REPUBLIC

1. A Democracy: Three wolves and a sheep voting on dinner.

2. A Republic: The flock gets to vote for which wolves vote on dinner.

3. A Constitutional Republic: Voting on dinner is expressly forbidden, and the sheep are armed.

4. Federal Government: The means by which the sheep will be fooled into voting for a Democracy.

5. Freedom: Two very hungry wolves looking for dinner and finding a very well-informed and well-armed sheep.

Yellowstone Earthquake Swarm Summary as of 11 February 2010

The rate of earthquake occurrence in the Madison Plateau area is now at background levels. As of February 11, 2010 4:00 PM MST there have been 1,805 earthquakes located. The swarm began January 17, 2010 around 1:00 PM MST about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of the Old Faithful area on the northwestern edge of the Yellowstone Caldera. Swarms have occurred in this area several times over the past 30 years. Visual observation of landforms and geothermal features by Yellowstone National Park personnel did not show any changes that could be attributed to the earthquakes.

This swarm is now the second largest recorded swarm at Yellowstone. It was longer (in time) and included more earthquakes than last year's swarm beneath Yellowstone Lake (December '08/January '09).

U.S. Economic Terrorism the New ‘Winning Trade

Bullion Bulls Canada
February 14, 2010

When Wall Street planned and executed the U.S. housing-bubble (and all its related scams), it destroyed the lives of tens of millions of Americans. Then, when it subsequently ‘crashed’ global markets, it inflicted hardship on most of the world. But the Oligarchs were just getting started.

As governments responded in a totally predictable manner, Wall Street began to collect on its interest-rate swap scam (see “WHO were the WINNERS in Interest Rate Swaps?”). With this scam the Oligarchs progressed from merely destroying companies and individuals to destroying schools, hospitals, towns and even states.

However, as we are now finding out, those were merely Wall Street’s “appetizers”. For their “main course”, the Oligarchs have moved up to destroying nations. Here, I must confess to once again underestimating the Oligarchs. I had thought that the latest propaganda campaign was merely a tactic to pull the worthless, U.S. dollar out of yet another nose-dive. How wrong I was!

China Loses Top Spot As Holder Of US Treasurys

Wall Street Journal - Jeff Bater, Darrell A. Hughes - ‎2 hours ago‎
WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--China slipped in December to the second-largest foreign holder of US Treasurys behind Japan after holding the top spot for 15 months, raising concerns of a more permanent shift out of the dollar.

Foreign demand for US Treasury securities falls by record amount as China reduces holdings

, On Tuesday February 16, 2010, 9:58 am

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government said Tuesday that foreign demand for U.S. Treasury securities fell by the largest amount on record in December with China reducing its holdings by $34.2 billion.

The reductions in holdings, if they continue, could force the government to make higher interest payments at a time that it is running record federal deficits.

The Treasury Department reported that foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury securities fell by $53 billion in December, surpassing the previous record of a $44.5 billion drop in April 2009.

The big drop in China's holdings meant that it lost the top spot in terms of foreign ownership of U.S. Treasuries, dropping to second place behind Japan.

Japan also reduced its holdings of U.S. Treasuries, cutting them by $11.5 billion to $768.8 billion in December, but that amount was still more than China's December total of $755.4 billion. READ MORE

Bank of America's troubles won't be ended by SEC deal

Bank of America shareholders probably won't get rich off any settlement the bank makes with the Securities and Exchange Commission, but they might get some ammunition for future lawsuits.

New York judge Jed Rakoff is expected to rule this week on whether the Charlotte bank can settle with the SEC for $150 million or must go to trial. The bank and the agency have been arguing for months over whether Bank of America properly disclosed billions of dollars of bonuses rushed out to Merrill Lynch employees in late 2008.

US and Pakistan capture Taliban military commander

Taliban denies top military commander captured

Geo TV - Geo World - ‎16 hours ago‎
Updated at: 1000 PST, Tuesday, February 16, 2010

KABUL: The Taliban denied on Tuesday a report its top military commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani, had been captured in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret raid by Pakistani and U.S. intelligence forces.

A Taliban spokesman said Ghani, known to many Taliban as Mullah Baradar, was still in Afghanistan actively organizing the group's military and political activities.

"He has not been captured. They want to spread this rumour just to divert the attention of people from their defeats in Marjah and confuse the public," Zabihullah Mujahid said while talking to a UK-based news agency, referring to a U.S.-led NATO offensive in Afghanistan's Helmand Province.

Sheriff Runs Campaign on Upholding US Constitution: In Montana there is now an attempt to put legislation in front of the voters called the “Sheriff First Law”. This law will require any Federal Law Enforcement Agency to get the permission of the county sheriff first, before undertaking any action in a county (as it should be). The sheriff would then have the power to approve or veto that request! Imagine constitutionally aware sheriffs protecting their citizens from abuses that threaten them and having the authority to hold those agents accountable for their actions.

The Montana Firearms Freedom Act is serving as a model for other states. I have heard more than twenty states have now adopted similar legislation. These concepts could spread and have a huge affect for the cause of freedom… more

Audit finds US census preparations wasted millions

Census preparations wasted millions as temps collected checks for excessive travel, training
, Tuesday February 16, 2010, 9:17 am EST

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Census Bureau wasted millions of dollars in preparation for its 2010 population count, including thousands of temporary employees who picked up $300 checks without performing work and others who overbilled for travel costs.

Federal investigators caution the excessive charges could multiply once the $15 billion headcount begins in earnest next month unless the agency imposes tighter spending controls, according to excerpts of a forthcoming audit obtained by The Associated Press.

Excesses of the Kansas City School District - proposed answer — close half the district’s schools — unprecedented in scope, a national expert said

The Kansas City Star
February 16, 2010

From the day he arrived last summer, Superintendent John Covington spoke bluntly about the excesses of the Kansas City School District.

It had twice as many schools, he said, and twice as many employees as it needed for a district of 17,000 students. Too many vendors. Too big a payroll.

His proposed answer — close half the district’s schools — is unprecedented in scope, a national expert said.

And Covington has spared no areas from the potential cuts, including the school district’s African-centered education program.

“I don’t know of any major city that ever tried to cut upwards of half of its schools at one time,” said Michael Casserly, the executive director of the Council of the Great City Schools. “That’s a lot of schools.”

Detroit closed more than 70 two years ago, but the district had more than 200 schools. Washington, D.C., closed 23 in one shot in 2008 in a district with some 120 schools. Detroit showed the process can be a disaster, Casserly said, while Washington proved that a large-scale cut can work.

“The major difference is a clear and objective set of criteria and transparent community involvement,” he said.

Covington’s team goes to the community in a series of forums beginning tonight to see just how much of a cut the community — and ultimately the school board — can stand.

He has proposed closing 29 to 31 of the district’s 60 schools and its underused administration building as part of cutting more than 700 jobs. He wants to be able to make a final proposal to the board Feb. 24. READ MORE

NORTHFIELD, Ill. -- Kraft Foods Inc. said Tuesday its fourth-quarter profit more than tripled on strength in developing markets and continued benefits from its restructuring plan to focus more on its money-making products.

Kraft, whose brands include Maxwell House, Oreo cookies and its namesake cheese, said profit surged to $710 million, or 48 cents per share, for the period ended Dec. 31. That's up from $178 million, or 12 cents per share, a year ago ...

French media exposes secret report on French nuclear tests on humans

RIA Novosti
16/02/2010

France carried out nuclear tests on its servicemen in the 1960s to study the effect of radiation on humans, according to a secret report uncovered by French media.

The 260-page document, reported by Le Parisien newspaper on Monday, said the experiments were carried out on French soldiers in Algeria's Sahara Desert in 1960-1966. The unattributed report was apparently written by one or several military officers in 1998, after nuclear tests were officially prohibited by then-French President Jacques Chirac.

According to the report, the experiments, intended to study the possibility of carrying out offensive and defensive operations in a contaminated area, involved some 300 infantrymen and tank crews, the paper said.

The French military authorities reportedly intended to "study the physical and psychological effect of nuclear weapons on humans."

The report said that on April 25, 1961, the soldiers were ordered to go on foot toward the site of a nuclear explosion 20 minutes after detonation. They covered 2 kilometers (1.24 miles), observed the destruction caused by the explosion from a distance of 1.1 kilometers (0.7 miles) and stopped some 0.7 kilometers (0.43 miles) away from the explosion's epicenter.

An hour after the blast, a vehicle patrol was ordered to carry out a raid to "point zero." They stopped just 275 meters (900 feet) away from the epicenter.

The experiments showed the soldiers were "able to continue fighting as they did not suffer serious moral harm," the report said. The conclusion was that in case of war, a direct nuclear strike would be needed to disable the enemy.

French Defense Minister Herve Morin did not comment on the report, saying he was unaware of it. He also pointed to a French law which stipulates compensation for victims of nuclear tests.

In March 2009, Morin said his ministry would spend some 10 million euros ($13.6 million) annually on compensation for victims of nuclear experiments, which were carried out in 1960-1966 in Algeria's Sahara Desert and in Polynesian islands and involved some 150 French servicemen.

According to media reports, the tests affected some 2,000 Polynesian residents, including 600 children under the age of 15.

‘Covert’ surveillance cameras coming to Chicago

Blue-light surveillance cameras such as these one day will be replaced by units so small they would be able to fit inside a match box.
(Brian Jackson/Sun-Times)

Blue-light surveillance cameras in Chicago's high-crime neighborhoods will someday be augmented by "covert" cameras that "fit inside of a match box" and keep the bad guys guessing, Police Supt. Jody Weis said. Now that crime-ravaged communities have been saturated with hundreds of blue-light cameras, Weis says it's time to take Big Brother technology to "the next level." That means surveillance cameras similar to the hidden cameras used to snare corrupt politicians.

We continue picking up snips and bits of data now that Cliff's web bot spiders are running data which will result in a new forecast out of the 'rickety time machine' somewhere around March 21 (plus or minus a few days).

There's an interesting snip or two already - about how a new book due for release shortly will reveal that about 20% of the earth's land is owned by something like 26 people. That -<--- right there - is what happens when globalists get more money than sense, but who ever said humanity had to be connected with wealth OR claims of dominance over indigenous people?

But back to point: We've been watching for 'swine flu' jitter to pop out temporally along around Winter Olympics time and look here: "Swine Flu outbreak Threatens at World Cup" says a NT Times report.

Coupled with the PIIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, and Spain) of Eurozone financial concerns and I'm beginning to wonder "Were the linguistics right and our interpretation of the data - wrong???" More insights come March. Although economic calamity is due long before then, which is why I'll probably enter short positions this week, depending on how the rally goes.

Photo of possible UFO abducting wildlife in Ukraine surfaces

Allnewsweb.com - ‎1 hour ago‎

UFOs are being blamed for the mysterious disappearance of animals from a Russian wildlife sanctuary.

The Aksania-Nova wildlife reserve in Southern Ukraine is famous for the large number of animal species, mostly non-native, that live within its boundaries.

Lately, however, employees have noticed that a number of animals have vanished from the reserve without a trace.

Every year thousands of tourists visit the sanctuary and enjoy the unspoilt scenery and chance to observe bison, zebra, ostrich and other inhabitants at close range. Recently one such tourist took a photo of a herd of wild Przewalski horses. On developing the picture he noticed an odd object or UFO hovering just above the horses.

The photographer handed the picture over to the park management who contacted Ukrainian ufologist Vladimir Kanuka. Mr Kanuka declared that the photo(above) does indeed show an alien or extraterrestrial craft. Mr Kanuka also suspects that this UFO might be connected with the animal disappearances. Others are not convinced. Alexander Mezinova, the park's head zoologist doubts UFOs are the problem and places the blame for the disappearances on poachers.

Asian Carp: If You Can't Beat 'em, Eat 'em

ABC News - Eric Horng - ‎Feb 13, 2010‎
At this week's National Grocers Association convention in Las Vegas, celebrity chef Philippe Parola was touting his new favorite fish.

'[It has] 70-percent more Omega-3 than in catfish and tilapia," an animated Parola told an assembled crowd at his booth. "No mercury because it's a filter fish."

Parola was talking about the Asian carp -- a slimy, boney fish that breeds quickly and is widely considered a pest. Parola's message: Eat the carp. Save the Great Lakes. ...
