Offensive Weapons

The United States is developing an Odor Bomb. “Why?” you are saying. “Don’t we already have New Jersey? Fine, make your little jokes. But this happens to be a serious matter of national security. According to news items sent in by several alert readers, the Department of Defense has asked scientists to develop an odor that is repulsive to all humans, regardless of culture. This odor could be used by the military to harmlessly clear people out of a given area.

KHALIL NOURI: AFGHANISTAN: THE FLAWED OPERATION “MUSHTARAK”
AFGHANISTAN: The Flawed Operation “Mushtarak” By: Khalil Nouri for Veterans Today “If “Success” is the word labeled for Operation “Mushtarak” when that outcome means agony, death, disfigurement and disablement for life for mostly young men, who were children just a few short years ago, then how can the definition of winning hearts... Female Prisoner Serving 27-Year Sentence for First-Time, Non-Violent Drug Offense

Iran? China? No, it’s America! From the Huffington PostAs we celebrate President’s Day, one prisoner asks President Obama to exercise his clemency power to commute the remaining 10 years of her 27-year sentence, which she received for a first time, non-violent drug offense. Hamedah Hasan, who is represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, filed a formal commutation petition today and included a letter addressed directly to President Obama. See Meet Hamedah Hasan. Below is a condensed version of her letter, adapted especially for Huffington Post

Bush-Cheney Cyber-Man’s Air Crash Gets Spookier
The crash would have remained a private tragedy confined to the pages of the local press and the hearts of the pilot’s widow and four children, but within days the blogosphere was abuzz with rumors and conspiracy theories: The plane, it was said, had been sabotaged and the pilot murdered to cover up the GOP’s alleged theft of the Ohio vote in the 2004 presidential election. At the center of this plot was the Saratoga’s pilot, a prodigiously gifted IT expert named Michael Connell, whose altar boy charm and technical brilliance had made him the computer whiz of choice for the Republican Party. Left-wing Web sites openly referred to Connell as “Bush’s vote rigger” and claimed that his fingerprints were on all the most controversial elections in recent history. There were dark whispers of electronic pulses or sniper fire being used to bring down the plane—a black ops attack designed to keep him from testifying against his former cronies. Right-wing bloggers and talk show hosts derided such claims as the twisted delusions of liberal nut jobs and tinfoil hatters. The mainstream press sat on its hands.

GORDON DUFF: OUR WAR ON TERROR’S “EMPTY NET”
It is 2010 and we know less about 9/11 each day. One “fact” after another comes into question until there are now none remaining. Same thing with the invasion of Iraq. No weapons of mass destruction existed, no “mobile bio-labs,” no nuclear program, no ties to Al Qaida, nothing. It was all invented, we have proven that much in 7 years of looking and not one piece of paper, not one shred of evidence. It turned out that the “yellow-cake uranium” was actually Hostess Twinkies.

“The American oligarchy spares no pains in promoting the belief that it does not exist, but the success of its disappearing act depends on equally strenuous efforts on the part of an American public anxious to believe in egalitarian fictions and unwilling to see what is hidden in plain sight.” — Michael Lind, To Have and to Have Not
Yes, of course, we all have very strong differences of opinion on many issues. However, like our Founding Fathers before us, we must put aside our differences and unite to fight a common enemy.

American Democracy Is Not the Gold Standard
Stuart Whatley proclaims in an otherwise insightful piece on the Tea Party that “American democracy, fueled by an active populace—despite its numerous imperfections—remains the gold standard around the world.”
That’s crap. Why Whatley ledes with a flag-waive is obvious and his championing of American democracy is absurd. What liberty and democracy we have were demanded by often small groups of the American people who prevailed in the face of zenophoibc, militaristic, racist, ass-kissing clones to power and state. What liberty we have was won by 10,000s of dead and brutalized Americans who fought not foreign enemies but domestic power and its tools. Some facts on America today:
- America has by far the most people in prison, proportionally and total population; Iran and China are pikers
- American veterans are routinely lied-to, and the political culture feels no politcal threat in lying to its 26-million military veterans
- The American political culture on the national stage rarely hears a voice championing civil liberties and human rights; those championing liberties like the ACLU are vilified
- America wages wars built on lies
- Most Ameircans can barely even recite fundamental elements of the formal democratic structures
One can go on: Voter turn-out, ill-informed public, an determined incapacity to think beyond sound bytes, widepsread ridiculing of human rights and the Bill of Rights and on and on. Consider the late Howard Zinn who wrote about people who brought us liberty, fighting against oppression against the mob of ass-kissers and liars.
