"We have three confirmed people who are dead, one injured. The police have secured the building. The shooter is in custody," UA-Huntsville spokesman Ray Gardner said. Snowfall Shatters Record, Leaves 180000 Without Power | NBC Dallas ...
A new record of 12.5 inches of snow in a 24-hour period was set at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (11.2 on Thursday) -- and flakes were still coming down after midnight. The previous daily record was 7.8 inches on Jan. 15, 1964, and Jan. 14, 1917 and the previous 24-hour record was 12.1 inches. The total for this winter, so far, is 15.7 inches, the second highest recorded in North Texas history. The highest recorded snowfall for a winter season was in 1977-78 with 17.6 inches of snow.
The snowfall forced the closure and delays of hundreds of schools and businesses on both Thursday and Friday. Now that the storm has passed, the damage assessment can begin.
As of 4:00 p.m. Friday, Oncor Electric Delivery said there are 200,000 homes and businesses in North Texas without power. Oncor added they are bringing in 1,500 contractors to repair power lines ripped down by tree branches laden with heavy snow...

WASHINGTON — House speaker Nancy Pelosi leads a bipartisan delegation of US lawmakers to quake-ravaged Haiti Friday to get a first hand look at reconstruction efforts before Congress considers long-term aid.
The delegation was scheduled to meet with President Rene Preval, Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive and other Haitian officials during the visit, which comes on the one month anniversary of the devastating 7.0 quake.
More than 200,000 people were killed and 1.2 million were left homeless by the January 12 temblor, which destroyed large parts of the Haitian capital and crippled its institutions.
Planned stops for the lawmakers included visits to aid distribution sites and medical facilities, as well as meetings with officials from the US military, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations and humanitarian groups.
"In the spirit of President (Barack) Obama, we go to demonstrate the ongoing American commitment to the Haitian people -- that they will not be forsaken or forgotten," Pelosi said in a statement.
"First and foremost, our delegation goes to pay our respects to the Haitian people who are suffering from the tragedy.
"It is also crucial that the House and Senate -- on a bipartisan basis -- have the opportunity to examine the ongoing reconstruction efforts ahead of the US Congress considering long-term reconstruction assistance for Haiti," she added.
The other members of the delegation include Republican Senator George LeMieux, Democratic senators Tom Harkin -- who chairs the Senate Health Committee -- Bill Nelson, Frank Lautenberg and Amy Klobuchar.
They will be joined by Democratic representatives John Conyers, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee; House Ways and Means Committee chairman Charles Rangel; James Oberstar, who chairs the House Transportation Committee; Sheila Jackson Lee; Earl Blumenauer; and Donna Christensen.

I am writing this letter in order to let you know about a new law in Greece announced yesterday. The financial minister of Greece announced yesterday that from 1/1/2011 all financial transactions of sums above 1500 euros in cash, will be banned. For any transaction above 1500 euros, only credit cards and checks will be legal. The formal explanation for this law is it will combat those who do not pay taxes. But we all know this is not the case... It seems the new world order wants to make Greece a testing ground for their new laws. For the past months, Greece have been attacked without mercy. We have been called liars, frauds, cheaters, thieves. They are threatening us constantly with banning from the euro zone and default. [These charges are] not true. ... The problem is, based on their accusations and (the virtual) bad situation of Greek finances, they will pass their experimental laws of their new world order. The fairly new Government of the socialist party, elected 4 months ago, forgot all its promises, and is determined to pass laws giving citizenship to illegal immigrants after 5 years, without any trade-off. We are 10 million Greeks here, and almost 3 million mostly illegal immigrants, who will obtain Greek nationality and will gain the right to bring their families here too... In Pakistan there are even ads saying "for 5000 euros we get you to Greece, to study free, work, make families, and obtain EU passports"... And now this... The previous government created a new ID card, to collect data from people since childbirth. This government will ban transactions in cash over 1500 euros, in order to make all of us have credit cards. The obvious first step is to ban all cash transactions, then merge this new ID card with the credit system, then, well.... insert this merged ID card into our bodies... Our peoples' morale is low, society is disorganized because of immigration and propaganda, and we will not fight those laws. A rapid drop in groundwater levels caused soil to drain into underground cavities, forming new sinkholes. Homes and highways can collapse into the sudden sinkholes. The unusually persistent cold weather that's been so damaging to Florida's citrus crops this winter has also led, strangely enough, to the sudden opening of at least 22 new sinkholes, including one under an interstate highway. Historically, sinkholes have not been a big problem in agricultural areas. But now there are more homes built in these areas, and that means more chances that a sinkhole will undermine a foundation and render a million-dollar house uninhabitable. The connection of cold weather to sinkholes is a tale of two colliding phenomena: Florida's naturally cave-riddled ground and fruit growers' financial need to get fruit to market first. Frappes are the second wave of the drinks blitz, and after being launched during 2009's fourth quarter, are now available in about one-third of McDonald's almost 14,000 U.S. outlets. Meanwhile, smoothies are being sold in some test markets.

Yellowstone Earthquake Swarm Summary as of 11 February 2010 The rate of earthquake occurrence in the Madison Plateau area is now at background levels. As of February 11, 2010 4:00 PM MST there have been 1,805 earthquakes located. The swarm began January 17, 2010 around 1:00 PM MST about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of the Old Faithful area on the northwestern edge of the Yellowstone Caldera. Swarms have occurred in this area several times over the past 30 years. Visual observation of landforms and geothermal features by Yellowstone National Park personnel did not show any changes that could be attributed to the earthquakes. This swarm is now the second largest recorded swarm at Yellowstone.
