109th Airlift Wing takes off for Antarctica mission - flying US scientists to support global warming research

GLENVILLE - Wednesday, October 21, 2009 - Two LC-130 cargo planes equipped to land on ice and snow took off from Stratton Air National Guard Base this morning, carrying two crews from the 109th Airlift Wing to Antarctica. Today's planes carried the first contingent of New York Air National Guardsmen to Antarctica, where members will fly U.S. scientists to the most remote parts of the Earth to support global warming research...
