November 16, 2009 - BEIJING—General Electric Co. made a big and potentially risky bet Sunday on China's aerospace industry as it struck an agreement with leading Chinese aircraft company Aviation Industry Corp. of China to jointly supply avionics systems for jetliner makers globally.
GE is angling in part to grab business for a planned aircraft China hopes will compete with jets from Boeing Co. and European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co.'s Airbus.
At the heart of GE's decision is the growth in China's appetite for planes, but the U.S. company is also betting a China-made jetliner could eventually challenge Boeing and Airbus outside China....
