Possible tornado rips through central Japan, damaging houses and cars, two injured

Sheer winds or a possible tornado ripped through a small town in central Japan, sending debris flying, on Sunday evening, July 19th, according to Japanese media reports.

The incident happened at about 7:20pm in the town of Mimasaka, Okayama prefecture, on the main island of Japan, about 90 miles west of Osaka. Heavy rains and bad weather were reported throughout the region.

Multiple houses were severally damaged, with roofs and walls being torn off. Other objects, such as cars, were damaged by flying debris. One car was found to have been thrown more than 300 feet (100 meters) into a nearby farm field.

No one was seriously hurt, but two elderly women received minor injuries.

Tornadoes are relatively rare in the country which is known to be highly prone to natural disasters, such as earthquakes.
