Unemployment statistics are flawed. What have I been saying ever sine the recession began, the Bureau of Labor Statistics use of the "birth/death" model is flawed. To adjust the monthly jobs data by a number which is computed from a ‘model' of how many businesses were created and how many closed up during any given month is simply asking for trouble in maintaining any sense of accuracy. Unit 1 of the South Texas Project nuclear power plant remained off line Thursday as workers tried to determine why one of the 57 control rods used in the unit failed to operate properly. The problem was discovered Wednesday afternoon as crews conducted a monthly control rod test and surveillance procedure, South Texas Project spokesman Buddy Eller said. He wouldn't specify the exact nature of the problem but said another control rod had what appeared to be a similar problem last month during the same test. Operators decided to shut down the unit Wednesday night to evaluate the problem, Eller said. Unit 1 was last shut down in October 2009 for a routine refueling, when some of the spent uranium fuel rods are removed and replaced. The reactor's vessel head was replaced then as well, for the first time since the unit started up in 1988. Eller wouldn't speculate as to whether the control rod problems were related to the new equipment. The plant's two reactors produce 2,700 megawatts of power, enough for about 2 million homes, the company estimates.

OBAMA'S EXECUTIVE BRANCH'S EXIM BANK: The Export-Import Bank of the United States (Ex-Im Bank) is the official export credit agency of the United States federal government. It was established in 1934 by an executive order, and made an independent agency in the Executive branch by Congress in 1945, for the purposes of financing and insuring foreign purchases of United States goods for customers unable or unwilling to accept credit risk. The mission of the Bank is to create and sustain U.S. jobs by financing sales of U.S. exports to international buyers. The Bank is chartered as a government corporation by the Congress of the United States; it was last chartered for a five year term in 2006.[1] Its Charter spells out the Bank's authorities and limitations. Among them is the principle that Ex-Im Bank does not compete with private sector lenders, but rather provides financing for transactions that would otherwise not take place because commercial lenders are either unable or unwilling to accept the political or commercial risks inherent in the deal. Its current chairman is Fred Hochberg. Soros+Obama+Your Money+Brazilian Oil=Treason Date: Thursday, 4-Feb-2010 23:39:44 RMN.com Total two-faced hypocrisy, or is it TREASON? Obama underwrites off shore oil drilling in BRAZIL: This is a perfect example why many refrain from watching the news on ABC, NBC, CBS, or MSNBC. Today, even though President Obama is against off shore drilling for our country, he signed an executive order to loan 2 Billion of our taxpayer dollars to a Brazilian Oil Exploration Company which is the 8th largest company in the entire world) to drill for oil off the coast of Brazil. The oil that comes from this operation is for the sole purpose and use of China and NOT THE USA. Now here's the real clincher... the Chinese government is under contract to purchase all the oil that this oil field will produce, which is hundreds of millions of barrels of oil". We have absolutely no gain from this transaction whatsoever - and the chosen fool is stealing your money to do it. Is this guy a piece of work or what? The 'or what' gets my vote. Wait, it gets more interesting... Guess who is the largest individual stockholder of this Brazilian Oil Company - and who will benefit most from this? It is none other than American BILLIONAIRE, George Soros The Insane, who was one of President Obama's most generous financial supporters during his campaign. If you are able to connect the dots and follow the money, you are probably as upset as I am. Remember, Mr Puppet In Chief signed an 'executive order' for this act of treason. Of course, not a word of this transaction was broadcast on any of the news networks. Perhaps We should let all of our government - ahem - 'representatives' know how you feel about this. In FY2007 and FY2008 combined, Ex-Im issued $15.3 billion in long-term loan guarantees. Of that total, almost $10 billion, or an average of 65 percent, went toward the purchase of commercial aircraft made by the Boeing Company, the world's largest manufacturer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft combined. According to its charter, Ex-Im contributes to the employment of U.S. workers through the provision of direct loans, loan guarantees, working capital guarantees, and export credit insurance to finance and promote U.S. exports abroad. The greatest portion of Ex-Im's financial commitments, however are tied up in long-term loan guarantees, where Boeing is the largest beneficiary by far. Obama’s $6.3 Trillion Scam Is America’s Shame Feb. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Look through President Barack Obama’s proposed 2011 budget, and you’ll see a line calling for a $235 million increase in the Justice Department’s funding to fight financial fraud. Lucky for them, the people who wrote the budget can’t be prosecuted for cooking the government’s books. Whether on Wall Street or in Washington, the biggest frauds often are the perfectly legal ones hidden in broad daylight. And in terms of dollars, it would be hard to top the accounting scam that Obama’s budget wonks are trying to pull off now. The ploy here is simple. They are keeping Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac off the government’s balance sheet and out of the federal budget, along with their $1.6 trillion of corporate debt and $4.7 trillion of mortgage obligations. China won't fold on RMB Poisoning probe focuses on Sprite container By Zuo Likun (chinadaily.com.cn) Police have sent the metal packaging of a sprite drink to a specialist laboratory for tests in a bid to unravel the mystery of how a man was hospitalized with mercury poisoning, the Beijing News reported. Tianjin-based China Packaging Research & Test Center (CPRTC) will analyze the inner coating, hermeticity and exterior appearance of three metal containers, one of which Ma Sai consumed on November 7, the other two are from the same batch of Coco Cola products. Police officers, Ma’s family and representatives from the beverage magnate attended the test. The newspaper cited a relative of Ma saying the test results will be vital evidence on whether or not the mercury was "injected into the container," CPRTC said its report, unavailable yet, would only go to its client, the police bureau of Xicheng District in Beijing. In a separate case under investigation, a 13-year-old Beijing student was hospitalized for mercury poisoning after drinking Sprite on January 17. China to levy anti-dumping duties on US chicken(China Daily - Feb 5 2010) China will levy initial anti-dumping duties ranging from 43.1 to 105.4 percent on US chicken products exported to China, the Ministry of Commerce said on Friday, in a move likely to further aggravate trade ties. The ministry's initial investigation showed that US companies had dumped chicken products into the Chinese market, according to the ministry's website (www.mofcom.gov.cn). The investigation was announced after the US imposed safeguard duties on Chinese-made tires, which China is now fighting at the World Trade Organisation. Chicken wings and feet, which are virtually worthless in the US market, are a delicacy in China. Many US poultry producers count on the Chinese market to round out their profits.
Companies that appealed the finding will see duties of 43.1 percent to 80.5 percent on their products, with Tyson Foods, an active investor and lobbiest in China, getting the lowest rate. Those that did not appeal would pay duties of 105.4 percent, the ministry said. The duties begin on February 13, or Chinese New Year's Eve, thus helping ensure that prices of the popular delicacies do not rise in a Chinese market that already faces vegetable inflation. Deplorable for Obama to meet Dalai Lama By Huang Xiangyang (chinadaily.com.cn) It is pathetic to see that US President Barack Obama is likely to succumb to domestic politics and go ahead with a plan to meet the Dalai Lama. The fact that the meeting is still being planned, as confirmed by White House spokesman Bill Burton on Tuesday, bodes ill for Sino-US relations, already battered by the latest announcement of a $6.4 billion arms sale package to Taiwan. The long-term US policy of publicly supporting the Dala Lama stems from the Cold War mentality, which requires Washington to use all means to contain what it believes threats from communist China. Declassified US intelligence documents reveal that for much of the 1960s, the CIA provided the Tibetan exile movement with $1.7 million a year for operations against China, including an annual subsidy of $180,000 for the Dalai Lama himself. Yes, the meeting may serve as a morale booster for Tibetan separatists. It may appear as a symbolic act to show the US on "moral high ground". But it will never change the fact that Tibet was, is, and will always be part of China. Obama, with all his intelligence, of course knows the nature of the meeting and its ramifications. It would be deplorable if he decides to continue playing this age-old dull political game that will serve no interests for the US but only stoke anger among the Chinese. As the president of the world's only superpower, Obama is free to meet anybody at anytime on his own soil. But just don't paint this farce with a moral hue. We call that audacity of shame. |

05 Feb 2010
"The majority of these US$390 million pesos will be invested in the Nescafe instant coffee processing plant," Nestle said in a statement, adding that the investment would increase capacity by 40 percent at the factory in Toluca near Mexico City.
Mexico, a major world coffee producer, has struggled to improve the quality of its beans in recent years but is positioning itself as a processor of coffee to serve US and European markets.
Nestle said it planned to invest US$1 billion in Mexico between 2008 and 2012.
Crop-threatening weevil discovered at LAX in basil shipment from Mexico
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Los Angeles International Airport intercepted a tiny insect that could pose a risk to agriculture, officials said Thursday.
The pest, pseudapion seminidum wagner, a member of the weevil family, was discovered in a shipment of organic basil from Mexico.
"LAX has never had this kind of bug before," said Naveeda Mirza, program manager for agriculture with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection field office.
Customs officials sent the insect to an entomologist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Infamous in Florida as a stored grain pest, the pear-shaped weevil can also feed on plant stems and leaves, causing abnormal plant growth, Mirza said.
The importer, who had the option to have the basil treated, destroyed or sent back to Mexico, chose to have the crop fumigated and sent on its way.

Undersea volcano close to Iwo Jima blows top Smoke and steam rise from the surface of the ocean close to the coast of Iwo Jima An underwater volcano erupted Wednesday morning about 5 kilometers north-northwest of Iwo Jima (Iwo To), sending a plume of white ash and steam into the air. The eruption of the Fukutokuoka no Ba undersea volcano -- which last erupted in July 2005 -- was discovered at about 7:45 a.m. by a Japan Coast Guard patrol boat. According to the coast guard, the volcano is about 1,300 kilometers south of Tokyo, and has also erupted in 1904, 1914 and 1986. District Coordinator Officer Siddiq Mandokhel told The Nation that lava spewed from a volcano: “I myself visited Jhari and examined the mountain and found 1 meter (3 feet) lava has been spewed.” Nearby residents claimed flaming fumes could be seen atop the mountain for several nights before the lava emerged. All volcanoes but one in Pakistan are listed as mud volcanoes, which are not fed by lava. Natural gas venting is a frequent occurrence at mud volcanoes — a possible explanation for the reports of fiery fumes and apparent lava.
