Not only will we have failure in prime loans and option-arm loans, but we are faced with a new crop of subprime and ALT-A loans put into motion by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae and FHA. In addition, we find it of great interest that the FHA is changing the rules to purchase homes. That, of course, means less homes will be purchased. The incidence of unemployment may be lessening, but it isn’t going away. Those of you who keep your ear to the ground know that real unemployment is 22.5% and in cities like Detroit it is somewhere near 45 to 50 percent. This is the result of free trade, globalization, offshoring and outsourcing.  |

A U.S. soldier has been accused of 'waterboarding' his four-year-old daughter because she couldn't recite the alphabet.
Joshua Tabor admitted to police that he used the CIA torture technique because he was so angry.
As his daughter 'squirmed' to get away, Tabor said he submerged her face - upwards - three or four times until the water was lapping around her forehead and jawline.
Tabor, 27, admitted to investigators that his daughter was terrified of water and he had deliberately chosen the punishment.

States will conduct livestock tracking
WASHINGTON, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture says a proposed federal program dedicated to livestock tracking will be replaced by a state tracking program.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said while the federal tracking program never fully into effect, public hearings on the nationwide program were filled with complaints from U.S. farmers and ranchers, the Des Moines (Iowa) Register said Saturday.
As a result of such opposition, the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama nixed the federal program in favor of state-organized attempts to track the movements of cattle, hogs and poultry across state lines.
Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey applauded the move, saying dealing with state officials is likely more acceptable to producers than dealing with USDA officials.
USDA officials said livestock born and bred inside the borders of a single state would not have to take part in tracking programs, even if their meat does cross state lines.
The Register said the federal tracking program stems from the administration of former U.S. President George W. Bush, who proposed the program in response to the first U.S. case of mad cow disease in 2003.

Syrian President Assad: We'll stand by Lebanon in case of Israeli attack
Syrian President Bashar Assad addressed the voices of war and peace in the Middle East for the first time Sunday evening. Speaking in a meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berry, Assad stressed that his government and the Syrian people would stand by Lebanon "in any case of an Israeli attack which it may face."
Official Syrian news agency SANA reported that the two discussed "the repeated Israeli threats against the region's countries and Israeli extremism threatening to destroy the chances for peace by igniting the region with wars and taking it into the unknown."
