Ex-IDF chief: Israel can't handle nuclear Iran alone

Israel may lack the military means for successful preemptive strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, former Chief of Staff Dan Halutz told Channel 2 news on Saturday.

"I think that the State of Israel should not take it upon itself to be the flag-bearer of the entire Western world in the face of the Iranian threat," Halutz, a former air force commander, told Channel Two.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I find the timing of Halutz' statement interesting, in light of the fact that the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mike Mullen, will be in Tel Aviv tomorrow to meet with his Israeli counterpart, Gabi Ashkenazi, Ehud Barak, and others.

What the Netanyahu government really wants is - yet again, as happened in Iraq - for the US to attack Iran to "neutralize" yet another of Israel's alleged existential threats in the Middle East.

I am hoping the US government won't take the bait on this one; but unfortunately, there are far too many people in the hall of power in Washington who see a war as a way to get out of the economic mess we're in.

There are two major reasons why we are not already attacking Iran. First, thanks to credible info on the net, the government hasn't been able to "sell" this war to the American people.

Secondly, with armed forces stretched in Iraq and Afghanistan, even with a huge contingent of hired mercenaries (which actually outnumber our forces right now in Afghanistan), we just don't have the troop strength right now to pull this off, no matter how superior our "whiz-bang" high tech weapons may be.

Any coming war against Iran has the capacity of going global, with Russia coming in on the side of Iran.

Please don't forget: Russia has nukes.

The CIA... Why Do We Call It An Intelligence Agency?

It seems like an intelligence agency, especially one that we give billions of tax dollars a year to and who scores billions more in the heroin and drug trade, should have had the resources to connect the dots on the latest terrorist plot...The Nigerian fruit of the loom attack. Is is just me or does anyone else wonder what in the hell these CIA agents do all day.

U.S. army deplores civilian casualties in Missan operation – spokesman

Miles added that the objective of the mission was to carry out arrest warrants against a number of wanted persons in the villages that belong to Ali al-Gharbi district, (100 km north of Amara), and the raiding force managed to arrest 22 wanted persons and seize a cache of munitions.

The Missan provincial council had convened an extraordinary session on Friday after 10 people were killed, five wounded and 12 others detained. The council decided that an ad hoc commission would be set up to investigate the incident.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder how many of the killed or wounded were women and kids.

Pakistan court strikes down president's order

Pakistan's Supreme Court suspended the presidential appointment of two top judges in an emergency ruling late Saturday that could cause a destabilizing clash between the judiciary and the unpopular, Western-backed government.

As local media reported the country was headed into a political and judicial crisis following the decision, President Asif Ali Zardari's spokesman issued a statement dismissing rumors the government was planning to declare a state of emergency.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If the Zardari government declares a state of emergency, what happens next?

If this is a replay of November, 2007, what we can well expect is something like the following, as reported 4 November 2007 in:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/03/world/main3448594.shtml

"Authorities rounded up opposition leaders Sunday after military ruler Gen. Pervez Musharraf suspended Pakistan's constitution, replaced the chief judge and blacked out independent TV outlets, saying the country must fight rising Islamic extremism."

And where would such a move put the US and the "war on terror" in Pakistan at this time in 2010??

That is anyone's guess, but the Pakistani military has always played a huge role in this kind of situation.

The question is, which elements of the Pakistani military leadership will prevail in such a scenario; those firmly in the US orbit, or those who want to see the US completely out of their country?

9/11 Panel Suspected Deception by Pentagon

Allegations Brought to Inspectors General

By Dan Eggen
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, August 2, 2006

Some staff members and commissioners of the Sept. 11 panel concluded that the Pentagon's initial story of how it reacted to the 2001 terrorist attacks may have been part of a deliberate effort to mislead the commission and the public rather than a reflection of the fog of events on that day, according to sources involved in the debate.

New blow to election credibility

Any lingering hope that Iraq can hold a credible and peaceful election suffered a further blow yesterday when the leading secular nationalist bloc suspended its participation.

The Iraqiya list, led by the former president Ayad Allawi, announced a three-day halt to its campaign after an appeals court upheld an exclusion order preventing Saleh al Mutlaq and Dhafer al Ani, two of its senior candidates, from standing on the grounds that they were pro-Baathist.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The already-rigged elections in Iraq, which are being slanted toward a complete Shiite majority, may well cause riots, if not a resurgent civil war.

This, of course, means that US military may wind up staying considerably longer than the current SOFA agreement with the Iraqi government allows.

E. coli fears spark 4.9 million pound meat recall

The recall includes approximately an additional 4.9 million pounds of products by Huntington Meat Packing Inc. under the Huntington, Imperial Meat Co. and El Rancho brands, the Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said Friday.

The affected beef and veal was sold to distribution centers, restaurants and hotels in California between Jan 4. and Jan. 22, 2010. Each box bears the establishment number "EST. 17967" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF the USDA can do no better than this, in terms of letting contaminated meat into the food chain, they might as well collectively resign and go home.

Most of the complaints center around shockingly low offers. Many potential clients sent in gold worth hundreds of dollars, only to be offered pennies on the dollar. One poor guy even claimed he sent in seemingly valuable jewelry, only to get a check for six cents!

Romans 13 Invoked at Los Angeles Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast 2010

February 13, 2010

LOS ANGELES – Before a crowd of about 1200 faithful, two prominent evangelical Christian leaders invoked Romans Chapter 13 at the 37th Annual Los Angeles Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast held today at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Keith Phillips, Founder and President of World Impact, Inc., a Christian missionary organization which ministers to under-privileged children in 11 American cities, managed to work the following propaganda into his introductory remarks:

”Romans Chapter 13 commands Christians to pray for those in authority over them.”
