Nuclear Regulatory Commission NRC report says Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant near Omaha, NE to get more oversight

Highway caution: The Iowa Department of Transportation is urging motorists to proceed carefully when driving in flooded areas. Among its tips:
» Use additional caution when traveling at night. It is difficult to see a flooded road ahead or water approaching the roadway from the side.
» If you must travel on roadways where water is nearby, give your full attention to driving and expect other vehicles ahead to slow down or make sudden stops.
» Keep your focus on the road ahead, not on the water around you, and adjust your speed for conditions.
Road condition information is available 24 hours a day by calling 511 in Iowa or 800-288-1047 outside of the state.
Trains disrupted: Flooding along the Missouri River continues to disrupt Amtrak passenger train service between St. Louis and Kansas City. Amtrak said it is extending the suspension of the morning train from St. Louis and the afternoon train from Kansas City at least until Sunday. The adjustments are needed to accommodate Union Pacific trains that use some of the same track, which is owned by Union Pacific and runs along the river. The affected trains are number 311 and number 316 of a route called the Missouri River Runner. The morning 314 train from Kansas City and the afternoon 313 train from St. Louis remain in service, Amtrak said.
Dam still OK: Officials say an inspection at Garrison Dam on the Missouri River in North Dakota found no problems. Three tunnels at the dam are used for overflow. The Army Corps of Engineers has been releasing record amounts of water through the dam and others on the river because of excessive spring snowmelt and rain, and the regulatory tunnels were put into use about 2½ months ago. The Bismarck Tribune reported that officials Monday used an underwater camera to check the concrete structures for signs of erosion or gouging. Dam Operations and Maintenance Manager Dale Evenson said the tunnels looked good.
Vegetation on levees: A spokeswoman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kim Thomas, said a seepage dam in Sarpy County is being completed. She said five teams were out Monday to perform levee surveillance. Vegetation on the levees has become a concern, she said, because it hinders levee inspection. She urged those responsible for the levees to keep the vegetation cut, so teams can inspect for weaknesses and animal burrows.
